Lennox rules out a comeback

Lennox Lewis today dismissed reports he was considering a comeback to the ring.

Britain's former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world retired last year after retaining his WBC title against giant Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko.

And he was ringside here at the weekend to see Klitschko, who won the WBC belt vacated when Lewis hung up his gloves, make a first defence against Danny Williams. Lewis admitted he was so disappointed with Williams's performance on the way to an eighth-round defeat that he almost returned to the sport there and then.

He said: "I felt like climbing in the ring, telling Danny to step aside and I'll show him how it's done."

But Lewis told Standard Sport that his boxing days were well and truly over. "I've retired, been there, done that," he said. "I proved all that I needed to prove."
