Lehmann's in for Cup

Arsenal will recall Jens Lehmann for Sunday's FA Cup tie against Stoke.

Arsene Wenger has decided to restore the German international in goal in place of Manuel Almunia for the third-round match at Highbury.

But Lehmann's return may only be temporary as manager Wenger looks to rest key players before the resumption of the Premiership. Thierry Henry will also be omitted after admitting feeling tired in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Tuesday night.

Lehmann was dropped at the end of November after Arsenal lost 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield. Earlier this week he predicted his return to the first team. "Watching matches, I cannot see that Almunia is better than me," said the German. "I am convinced I will be back soon."

Although Almunia has appeared jittery in some of the eight games he has played, he has only conceded five goals and Arsenal have been unbeaten, winning six and drawing twice.

Wenger has a history of using the FA Cup to rest his first-choice goalkeeper. Four years ago he played Richard Wright for every round before bringing in David Seaman for the final against Liverpool.

While Lehmann will be glad to be back in action on Sunday, Henry will be just as happy to be given a rest.

The France striker has started in 28 matches this season - all 22 in the Premiership and the six games Arsenal have played to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.
