In a further twist today, Leeds' players changed tack and insisted they were "fully behind" the club and their acting chairman Trevor Birch and had made no final decision on whether to defer their wages.
The statement said: "We wish to make it clear that we are fully behind the club and are working with Trevor Birch and the Professional Footballers' Association in the hope of solving the problems. Some of the reports we have read in the newspapers are wrong.
"We are together as a team and no decision has been made on whether to defer a percentage of our wages. We have said that we will be prepared to support the club, should it be required."
A bid of around £3m for Robinson is understood to have been lodged with Leeds although the debt-ridden club are determined to hang on to all their stars, especially striker Alan Smith. A Leeds spokesman said: "Smith is not for sale."
Leeds did try to get rid of loan players Zoumana Camara and Didier Domi today but the pair refused to sign papers releasing them from their contracts at the club.
