Konchesky: I still want to leave

Paul Konchesky may have a signed Paolo Di Canio shirt on his wall at home but the arrival of the Italian at Charlton does not mean he will withdraw his transfer request.

The 21-year-old is impressed that the former West Ham striker has joined on a 12-month deal and by the effect he has already had on the club in his first few days.

Charlton's profile is rising as they prepare for their Premiership opener against Manchester City on Sunday. These days, children wait around for autographs and there is more security on show.

Konchesky is generally happy at the club and prepared to put up with flak from fans who are bitter he asked to leave earlier this summer. But he does not agree with manager Alan Curbishley that he is best in an attacking position and remains determined to play at left-back to further his claims for a second England cap.

Konchesky said: "It is good to have a player of Paolo's ability here, somebody who can change a game.
