Oakham were unable to find the same intensity after the break and there wasalways the feeling that if the King's sharp backs could get some ball, thegame was not over. So it proved. King's powerful No 8 Luke Narraway, another England hopeful, began to make inroads, lifting the whole side andfrom a ruck on the 22, a lovely piece of skill from Laidlaw put King's onthe scoreboard. He kicked to the far corner where winger Mike Whear timedhis run perfectly to collect and score. Laidlaw's impressive conversionraised spirits even more and King's scored again within two minutes from atextbook move, Laidlaw looping around to make the extra man before puttingfull back Pete Winstanley through the gap on the 22. If that wasn't gameon, Nick Major's drop kick to make the score 17-15 raised the tension evenmore.
