"It would be difficult to take a step back and I will feel it sitting on the bench.
"I feel I am playing as well as anyone in the country but there is a thing about experience.
"The country is blessed with great talent, Rio and Sol have great experience and I cannot really argue with that."
King has played a key role in Tottenham's fine start to the Premiership campaign under Jacques Santini. He added: "It won't dent my confidence if I don't play. Tottenham have got off to a good start and I will still go back there in good shape.
"I feel I have been playing as well as I have in my career this season. Last term I was playing in midfield and did not feel that was my strongest position.
"When I got my chance at the back I felt I had to show that was my position and where I should play. It has been good for me. I have enjoyed it."
