Ferguson denied the failure to land Ronaldinho would leave him short of attacking alternatives.
He said: "I don't think we are predictable. Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Ole Solskjaer, Diego Forlan and Ruud van Nistelrooy offer plenty of options, so it's not a problem.
"Scholes got us 20 goals last year. Ole and Ryan got double figures and Ruud hit 44 goals. We won the league with this team. Ronaldinho was a different type of player. You never know what he would have done and we'll never know now."
Ferguson also laughed off suggestions that a move for Newcastle's Kieron Dyer was now imminent.
Five thousand spectators turned up at the Nike training base to watch United train. Of the new recruits, only David Bellion is with United's 20-man party. Eric Djemba-Djemba has been given extra time off following his Confederations Cup exertions with Cameroon, while Tim Howard will link up with the squad next Thursday ahead of a scheduled debut against Juventus in New York on 31 July.
