"We've had a good season but are not where everyone at Chelsea wants us to be. We want to do better than this next season and better than that the season after."
Kenyon has attracted criticism for his treatment of Ranieri, particularly his courting of Sven-Goran Eriksson, and in a series of heated exchanges with fans defended his actions.
Kenyon insisted no decision has been taken on the Italian's future, but in reality Saturday's game against Leeds will be his last. Porto coach Jose Mourinho spent 24 hours in the company of Chelsea directors and agents last week and he is regarded as the front runner for the job.
Kenyon said: "There has been no decision taken on Claudio Ranieri and no new manager appointed.
"We conduct our discussions privately with Claudio and are not about to change that. If you do not believe me that's unfortunate.
"The decision will be taken over the next few weeks."
Supporters are split over the club's pending managerial change but they were pleased to hear of another influx of star players.
It will be another frenetic summer of transfer activity in west London with as many as 10 high-profile departures and at least five new players joining.
Kenyon said: "The budget has not been set yet but players will be coming in, players will be going out.
"We will bring in a number of new players this season and have to bring them in early so they can be integrated into the squad.
"We do not just bring players in because we like their name, it's about making the team better.
"I came here to build a club from where it is today, a good base. It's a long-term buy and will take a period of time."
Kenyon also confirmed that Chelsea are trying to secure Gianfranco Zola's return to the club on a permanent basis following a tribute match in August, as revealed by Standard Sport three months ago.
He added: "Zola came here last week and we were delighted to see him. We all understand what he represents and look forward to bringing him here for a game.
"He's still playing but we'd like him to be involved in Chelsea."
