Kenny Dalglish joins Liverpool board

Former Liverpool player and manager Kenny Dalglish has returned to the club as a non-executive board director just 17 months after he was sacked as Reds boss.

Dalglish’s second spell in charge of the Anfield club was marred by hefty transfer fees that did not translate into successful performances, which ultimately led to his dismissal in May 2012.

But the Scot has admitted he did not hesitate once a route back into the club was presented to him.

"It is an honour and privilege to be asked to return to Liverpool as a director of the club," said the 62-year-old.

"I have always said if there is anything I could do to help this club I would make myself available - when the call came I had no hesitation.

"I am looking forward to working with the board of directors and contributing to the strategic issues that affect Liverpool Football Club.

"Liverpool has given me and my family so much since we came here just over 36 years ago and my priority is and will always be to have the club's best interests at heart."

Dalglish had an ambassadorial role at the club during Roy Hodgson’s Liverpool tenure, but the England manager claimed the Scot’s presence was a hindrance during his brief spell in charge.
