Kelly vow to help get Games

Kelly Holmes said today she was willing to interrupt her preparations for this summer's world championships by travelling to Singapore to help London's 2012 Olympic bid.

The double Olympic champion, reckoned to be the most influential voice among Britain's elite sports stars following her Athens heroics, has already disrupted her winter training in South Africa to fly over and help the bid team today with their critical presentation to the International Olympic Committee's Evaluation Commission.

Yet because she is so impressed by London's plans, she promised that this was only the start of her "banging the drum" for the capital and she is even prepared to help the bid team's final push in July in the middle of the athletics season.

"If I can help Seb Coe and the 2012 team in any way I will because I believe in this bid," she revealed.

"I hope that I'll be able to take a bigger role in the campaign between now and the IOC vote in Singapore in July and, depending on my athletics commitments, I'd really like to be in Singapore itself to help push their case. Something tells me that we will win."

The vote on 6 July comes four weeks before Helsinki stages the world championships. But Holmes, who runs in the grand prix in Birmingham on Friday, has not yet committed herself to competing in any major championships this year.
