Keller on the way out?

Kasey Keller is likely to seek a summer move from Tottenham if the club seals a deal for Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Robinson's £1.5million move is expected to be completed next week when the England international undergoes a medical and discusses personal terms. Tottenham have agreed the fee and Robinson will be left out of tomorrow's match at Chelsea.

Leeds chairman Gerald Krasner said: "We are very pleased with the deal for Paul and wish him every success at Tottenham.

"Despite reports to the contrary it was the best offer made for him. None of the top four Premiership clubs were interested or had an opening for him, so the market was very limited regardless of his enormous talents."

Krasner also claimed Robinson was "the highest-paid goalkeeper in England" and added: "We have made no secret that the wage bill at the club has to come down."

Robinson was believed to be on £30,000 a week at Leeds - a figure Spurs are unlikely to match.

Keller, who has a contract until May 2005, is unwilling to sit out his time on the bench as understudy to the 24-year-old.

Robinson had been set to join Spurs during the January transfer window but the move fell through when it was clear he would not be able to rejoin Leeds on loan until the end of the season.

Keller could be the third keeper to leave White Hart Lane as Spurs have already released reserveteam stoppers Lars Hirschfeld, from Canada, and Shwan Jalal, who joined from Hastings Town in August 2002. Keller, 34, established himself as No1 ahead of Neil Sullivan after signing on a free from Spanish second division side Rayo Vallecano.

Keller will be in goal tomorrow for the match at Wolves and he is set to be joined in the team by Christian Zeige and Gus Poyet, both of whom are being released after the season closes.

Darren Anderton, also shown the door, says he is considering offers for next season. The former England midfielder said: "I am still only 32 and I believe that I have a few years left in me at the highest level. I am looking at various options both here and abroad and look forward to a fresh challenge.

"I have had 12 good years playing more than 380 games at the highest level for Tottenham and England and naturally I am sad to be leaving."

Meanwhile, David Pleat, whose performance as caretaker manager has put his own future at the club in doubt, said today that Stephen Kelly, the Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain, has gained invaluable experience deputising for Stephen Carr in the backline over the past few weeks.

Pleat said: "It will give him the confidence to know that he can cope at this level. We've bought him on gradually. He has had loan spells at Southend, QPR and Watford. He is now that little bit more mature, while he has to improve certain elements of his game, which he is more than aware of himself.

"He will do that. The more he plays with better players the more he will improve."

Wolves, who will announce a twoyear £2m sponsorship deal with sportswear manufacturer Le Coq Sportif on Tuesday, will be able to select Lee Naylor, who has recovered from a knee injury.
