Just Wild about Sheikh's chances of St Leger glory

Sheikh Mohammed holds an outstanding chance of landing a sixth St Leger when Rewilding lines up against nine rivals at Doncaster tomorrow.

Having won the Great Voltigeur Stakes at York in a fast time, Frankie Dettori's mount will be a warm favourite to follow-up in Britain's oldest Classic.

The big question is whether he can reproduce the same form on softer ground and over a trip two-and-a-half furlongs further than the 1m4f he raced over at York. The son of Tiger Hill carried 3lb less than Midas Touch and had four lengths to spare over that rival, who re-opposes.

Rewilding (3.20pm) won on heavy ground over a mile as a juvenile and looks to have plenty of stamina in his pedigree. Although some horses do not always show a similar level of form after winning a truly-run race, the Great Voltigeur looked a cruise for Rewilding and he has twice had the beating of Midas Touch, having also finished in front of Aidan O'Brien's runner in the Derby.

King George V Stakes winner Dandino could be the main danger and represents cracking each-way value at 7-1.

Saeed Bin Suroor may be casting envious glances towards his fellow Godolphin trainer but Saamid (2.10pm, nap) should have him dreaming of next season's Classics if he wins the Group 2 Champagne Stakes. He produced a blistering turn of foot when winning a Newbury maiden by seven lengths on his debut.
