"Roberto is a good person, so he has never offered himself to another club. He has just continued to do his work. Maybe he will have a longer holiday, but I hope another club calls him today."
Mancini, 43, is just one of a host of potential candidates that Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon is mulling over.
Former Chelsea forward Mark Hughes, Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari, Russian boss Guus Hiddink and former Barcelona chief Frank Rijkaard have all been linked with the vacant position.
However, one candidate who has ruled himself out of the race is former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
The 43-year-old is set to join Bayern Munich this summer but Chelsea insiders made an enquiry to see if there were any loopholes in his pre-contract to allow him to change his mind and sign for the Blues.
But Klinsmann rejected the approach and said he was committed to taking over at the Allianz Arena.
Meanwhile, Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has revealed the head injury he suffered in a collision with Reading's Stephen Hunt in October 2006 has left him needing contact lenses.
Cech, 26, said: "Getting the lenses was probably the best moment of the season for me. I can now see 100 per cent better."
