Jose: I thrive on pressure

Jose Mourinho today revealed that it was the intense pressure he will face to win silverware that convinced him to join Chelsea.

The 41-year-old was unveiled on a three-year contract worth £4million per annum at Stamford Bridge and vowed to add to the five trophies he won in five years at Porto.

Mourinho will be expected to deliver success in his first season following Roman Abramovich's £300m investment in the club but thrives under such pressure.

He said: "I chose Chelsea because I was reading a lot of things about how do you cope with the pressure, with big players, with the urgent ambitions to win titles. That's what I love. You do not have to ask me about how I cope, that's what I like in football.

"It's a big challenge for me because of the quality of the Premiership. The first real contact was over the weekend after the Champions League final and it was very impressive. I found persons with the same mentality as me.

"They love football as I love it and want to win as I want to win. Over the last two years I had a taste of success and I want to keep it. I do not want to arrive in 2010 with the same titles I have now, I want more. We're in the same boat with the same ambitions so it's a great challenge."
