Anxious not to disrupt preparations for the Reading game, Jordan explained that he decided to wait until Dowie's contract had been agreed before telling Symons.
This did not happen until late on Friday night so the next time the pair met was at the Madejski Stadium.
Jordan said: "I did not think it was appropriate to phone Kit at 10pm on Friday to let him know that a new manager may be in situ on Monday.
"I was also told he was very demoralised so I wanted to have a conversation on Saturday to let him know that whatever the situation, I expected him to go out and do a job.
"I perhaps should not have got drawn into such a protracted conversation and for it to appear as if there was a confrontation going on.
"There was just an explanation and there was obvious disappointment from Kit. It was simply a case of me going down to see if he was okay which, with the benefit of hindsight, I possibily should have done after the game."
Symons now reverts to being simply a player and will be in contention for a place against Millwall on Boxing Day.
