Jones admitted that his side had brought about their own downfall against Morecambe.
He said: 'We did not apply ourselves properly and it is now up to me and my staff to make sure that is sorted out.
All I can hope is that this turns out to be the kick up the backside that we need because we are all embarrassed by what happened on the pitch.'
Jones is expected to wrap up the transfer of Spurs's Norway striker Steffen Iversen today.
Aston Villa also hope to make inroads in the transfer market by completing the signing of Sunderland's Denmark keeper Thomas Sorensen for around £2.5million.
Villa have been in talks with the 27-year-old and his club since last week and Sorensen now looks set to join midfielder Gavin McCann, who made the same move last week for £2.25m.
