Jol wins a £3m deal

Tottenham are preparing to reward Martin Jol with a bumper pay rise following a successful first season as head coach.

The Dutchman is poised to sign an improved three-year contract which will boost his basic annual salary from £600,000 to £1million.

Bonuses related to team performance are also structured into the deal so on-the-field success will take his earnings even higher.

Sporting director Frank Arnesen said: "Everything is ready and everything has been agreed with Martin for his new contract.

"It is all under control and now he just needs to sign the paperwork, but that will be done when Daniel Levy returns from a business trip. I can't see there being any problems now and we are delighted that it has all been confirmed."

Initially recruited as an assistant coach last summer, Jol took charge of the first team following Jacques Santini's resignation in November. Since then his representative and chairman Levy have been discussing an improved deal. The urgency of those negotiations increased when Jol was linked with Ajax last February.
