'Jol will stay put at Tottenham'

The Spurs head coach has been linked with the vacancy following Ronald Koeman's shock resignation, with reports in Amsterdam even suggesting he is the No1 target.

But Van der Sar, who spent the first 11 years of his career at Ajax, cannot envisage Jol choosing to return to his homeland after only five months in charge at White Hart Lane..

Following his side's 2-0 defeat by Spurs, the Fulham goalkeeper said: "He is making an impact in Holland. When someone from our country does well in a big competition then people take notice.

"I imagine Ajax are making a list of who they want and, if someone like him is doing well in the Premiership, then it's natural he would be included, but I don't think Martin Jol is going to leave Tottenham. Ajax is a bigger club but the English league is a bigger competition."

Despite the incentive of regular Champions League football and presiding over the Dutch club's famed academy, Jol has distanced himself from the speculation.

He said: "Every time a big club in Holland loses a manager they are linked with my name. My future is at Spurs. I'm pretty satisfied here. The whole question of joining Ajax is hypothetical and I don't want to talk about it."

The win against Fulham, only Tottenham's second London derby victory in 23 attempts, was important step in recapturing the momentum Jol has created since succeeding Jacques Santini last October.

His side are four points off a UEFA Cup place and will reach the FA Cup quarter-finals if they beat Nottingham Forest in Wednesday's fifth-round replay.

This time last year it was Fulham who had the greater chance of European football, but on Saturday's evidence Chris Coleman's side have badly regressed.

Ultra-defensive tactics ensured they did not create a single worthwhile chance before Fredi Kanoute made Spurs' domination count with a 78th-minute free-kick. Fellow substitute Robbie Keane then completed the scoring in added time.
