Jol gives loyalty pledge to Levy

Martin Jol today issued a pledge of loyalty to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

The move follows comments attributed to the Dutchman in which he blamed Levy for damaging the club's chances of success. Jol was quoted in a Sunday newspaper as claiming that the chairman had left Spurs with an identity crisis because of the large number of managerial changes in recent seasons.

But, following Spurs' 5-1 victory over Southampton, Jol swiftly moved to clarify his criticisms and dampen talk of a rift. He said: "It was nice to wake up and read such positive reporting of our game but one newspaper was still trying to suggest that there are issues at the club.

"This club has, in the past, had the misfortune of having to change managers due to a lack of success and the chairman altered the management structure in the summer in order to address this. Sporting director Frank Arnesen and I are working hard to get his club back to the top.

"Daniel Levy is the man who bought us in and we are are determined to succeed for him."

In yesterday's report Jol claimed to have been upset by comments made by Levy in the wake of his appointment. Jol was quoted as saying: "Our president said that if this coach doesn't succeed then we'll try another. I didn't believe what I heard."
