Jason lining up Test spot

Jason Robinson made rugby history yesterday by scoring five tries on his Lions debut then summed up his feat with one word of exclamation: 'Hallelujah!'

The God-fearing England left wing scored his tries in 33 second-half minutes as the Lions defied the tropical humidity here to thrash the Queensland President's XV 83-6.

Robinson would have equalled the all-time Lions record of six tries in a match, set by England's David Duckham in New Zealand in 1971 and matched by Wales wing J J Williams in South Africa three years later, had centre Mark Taylor passed outside instead of inside to Rob Henderson in the final minute.

'I knew nothing about that record until someone mentioned it after the match,' said the phenomenal Robinson.

'So much has happened to me since I switched from rugby league to union last season that I have to pinch myself. That was my first match for two months.

'Five tries? Hallelujah! But this is a team game and I just had to finish them off. The other players did the damage and left the space out wide for me to make sure I finished the moves. Some people think I'm pulling the wool over their eyes when I say this is all a big learning curve for me but that's what it is.
