James has confidence in Bromley strength

James Butterfill spends his working week as the strength and conditioning coach to Kent County Club. Rest and recovery time play a crucial part in the 31-year-old former teacher's fitness programmes for Robert Key and his team.

But there is little time for relaxation in Butterfill's own very busy schedule when he switches to his weekend role as the club captain of National Knockout Cup holders Bromley.

The Kent League side focus their attention this Sunday on club cricket's other major prize when they travel into town to face three-times champions Teddington for a place in the quarter-finals of the Evening Standard Challenge Trophy.

"It's going to be another tough weekend, but that's what we play for," said Butterfill (below).

"If you want to compete in the two big knockouts, the National and the Evening Standard, you can't expect any Sundays off."

In fact, Bromley's National group final against St Lawrence was rained off last weekend and has been rearranged for next Tuesday or Wednesday evening and will be played as a Twenty20 match.

Bromley, Challenge Trophy winners at The Oval in 2005, have fallen at the semi-final hurdle in the past two years.

"We would love to get back to The Oval and win it again," said Butterfill. "We're in the mix and playing good cricket but we know people are gunning for us. That's the price of being successful."
