Illness rules out reining champs

Neither the King George V or Queen Elizabeth II Cups will be defended by their holders at the Royal International Horse Show at Hickstead on Sunday.

The 2000 winners, Cameron Hanley (on Ballaseyr Twilight) and Claudia Neureiter ( Ballaseyr Leonardo), will not compete after American owner Marian MacMillan became seriously ill and decided to sell up.

The show opens tomorrow with Great Britain hoping for at least a top-four finish in Friday's Samsung Nations Cup.
