I'm not Arsene Whinger

After years of taking charge of Arsenal against Manchester United and the 'Battle of the Buffet' still fresh in his memory, the Frenchman knows tension when he sees it.

Wenger's reputation may not be as solid as it once was, but he is known for staying calm and keeping his emotions hidden while everyone around him loses their heads.

So he was surprised when the PSV Eindhoven coach Guus Hiddink painted him as a whinger who lets his team run riot after their Champions League clash on Wednesday.

The Dutchman said Wenger spent much of the 1-1 draw haranguing the fourth official and heated things up for his players before Lauren and Patrick Vieira were sent off, both for two yellow cards.

Despite having at least one heated exchange on the touchline with the official, the Arsenal manager, more used to locking horns with Sir Alex Ferguson, today told Hiddink to mind his own business.

"It is not down to him to judge what I do with the fourth official," said Wenger.

"The fourth official came to see me to give me the result of the other game in our group, between Panathinaikos and Rosenborg. That is all.

"I do not know what the problem is. I never spoke to Hiddink. They were very excited and I don't know if the emotion got the better of him, but I had no problems in the game."

Wenger also responded to Hiddink's claim that Arsenal's players were out of control.

Vieira has had discipline problems in the past and losing him and Lauren for the crucial Rosenborg clash is a blow.

But Wenger disputed that the red mist had descended on his players in Eindhoven.

He said: "We wanted the result so much that there was a little bit too much commitment. We were not dirty, but a little bit over enthusiastic.

"The discipline was okay. Frankly, it was a Champions League game and there were 11 fouls from us. You cannot say it was a dirty game.

"It was just one of those occasions. Having watched the game again, Patrick got the ball in the tackle for his second yellow card but he went in sideways so we have to accept that."

Overall, Wenger was happy with his side's performance and thought they could have beaten PSV when down to 10 men.

The result leaves qualification for the next stage in their hands and the manager is confident his team are on the way out of their sticky spell at home and abroad.

He saw signs of improvement on Wednesday and last weekend against West Brom, even though Arsenal only managed to draw both games.

Whether they will be able to get a performance and a victory at Liverpool on Sunday depends largely on their injury list. It does not compare to the number of Liverpool players sidelined, which includes Djibril Cisse, Milan Baros, Luis Garcia, Djimi Traore and Antonio Nunez.

But Robin van Persie and Jose Reyes both have bruised knees and Dennis Bergkamp has an Achilles problem.

They should come through tests today and tomorrow, leaving Thierry Henry's fitness the one major doubt.

The France striker says he has only been about 70 per cent fit all season and his problems were exacerbated against PSV.

Wenger will do everything to patch up Henry. He said: "Henry has hurt his Achilles and calf and there is a lot of blood in the injury.

"It is a concern for Sunday and we will have to wait until tomorrow to see if he can play.

"I would rate him at 50-50. If we have to cope without him we will.

"We don't know how much it would affect our game to be missing Henry, but what I do know is that I want him there."

Another player whom the manager and the team need around is Sol Campbell.

The England defender made his comeback against PSV after five games out with injury and came through unscathed.

His absence affected Arsenal's form and for all that Wenger defended his replacement, Pascal Cygan is just not a patch on Campbell.

Fortunately, Wenger will be able to rely on the former Tottenham centreback again on Sunday.

The manager said: "Campbell came back quite well and I felt for his first game he looked quite sharp.

"There was no reaction after the game so he should be okay and it is tremendous to have him back in the team.

"He is calm, experienced and organises the team very well. He talks a lot on the pitch and is an important player."
