Hughes blow as Youmzain owner opts for Hills in Arc

Supporters of Youmzain's quest to improve on his runner-up spot in last year's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp next month will no doubt rejoice at the decision of owner Jaber Abdullah to replace regular jockey Richard Hughes.

But, before backers of the Mick Channon-trained five-year-old get carried away with the axing of the controversial Irishman, they should study the identity of his replacement - Richard Hills.

Hills also gets under the skin of many a betting shop punter and invites almost as much scorn as Hughes.

Youmzain was beaten a head by Dylan Thomas in last year's Arc with Hughes once again criticised for finding trouble in running.

Bruce Raymond, racing manager to the owner, explained the decision.

He told the Racing Post: "Jaber Adbullah has decided Richard Hills will ride Youmzain in the Arc, because he feels the horse could benefit from a change of jockey.

"He knows Richard Hills from Dubai and respects him as a rider. He has admired the way Richard Hughes has ridden Youmzain and, as far as I know, there is no fallout between them."
