Marks out of 10 for England for their 1-0 win over Azerbaijan in Baku.

Paul Robinson Did a passable impression of a brass monkey for most of the match but when called upon did everything asked of him. 6 out of 10

Gary Neville The England team's shop steward provokes a mixed press but there is something of the leader in him. Solid as a rock. 7 out of 10

Sol Campbell Would have been easy to lose focus against this opposition but Campbell just took a deep breath and imposed himself on the match. 8 out of 10

Rio Ferdinand It's good to have him back at the heart of the defence. In the wind and the rain he still managed to look immaculate, a real class 8 out of 10act.

Ashley Cole Had more than enough energy to motor up and down the left flank all night long, covering both in defence and midfield. 8 out of 10

Jermaine Jenas Did okay in conditions which would have tested the resolve of those hardy folk up at St James' Park. Worth another look. 6 out of 10

Frank Lampard One of his quieter games for England but would prefer being in the centre of midfield rather than out on the left. 6 out of 10

Nicky Butt One of Eriksson's favourites and you can see why. Does his job well and will stay in the side in Steven Gerrard's absence. 8 out of 10

Jermain Defoe Was substituted for the second straight game. With the three-strikers system, found his way frequently barred by too many bodies. 6 out of 10

Michael Owen (c) Should have time to savour his winning goal when he returns to the Madrid bench but looks fresher than we have seen for some time. 7 out of 10

Wayne Rooney Worked his socks off and was England's star man. Eriksson would now like to wrap him in cotton wool but Fergie has other ideas. 9 out of 10

Substitutes: Alan Smith - put himself about as you would expect but never really looked like scoring. 6. Shaun Wright-Phillips - replaced Jenas on the right but would look more comfortable in a 4-4-2 system. 6. Joe Cole - hardly had time to make a mark but at least he'll be fresh for Chelsea this weekend. 6.

Sven-Goran Eriksson Has dealt with a difficult few days in his usual understated and cautious way and when the dust has settled, he will be happy with his full quota of points. 8.
