Marks out of 10 for Arsenal's players against Bayern Munich...

Jens Lehmann

Could do nothing about the goals and made one stunning save. Jeered throughout but kept his cool and looked confident in front of Germany boss Jurgen Klinsmann. 6/10

Lauren

Not his most certain performance in an Arsenal shirt and at times looked jittery when Bayern came forward. Booked for a wild, two-footed lunge. 5

Kolo Toure

His confidence is wafer thin at the moment. But while his defending was questionable, the late goal that gives Arsenal hope will have done him a power of good. 5

Pascal Cygan

Not dominant like Campbell and although he doesn't deserve to be so maligned, questions remain over whether he is up to the role of the England defender's deputy. 6

Gael Clichy

One of the few success stories. The 19-year-old shows remarkable maturity for one so lacking in experience and was left exposed by others for the third goal. 7

Robert Pires

An anonymous first half but an energetic second. He was everywhere and could not be faulted for effort, doing his best to provide the openings for his front men. 6

Patrick Vieira

The heartbeat of the team. He never shirked a tackle and drove his team forward - always encouraging and cajoling more effort. His shot set up Toure's vital strike. 7

Edu

When he went off, so did a massive chunk of the experience Arsenal needed. He will be vital in the second leg when Arsenal need to combine spirit with patience. 6

Jose Reyes

Had one of his "want to be anywhere but here" nights. Nothing he tried came off and he spent as much time on the frozen turf as he did on his feet. 4

Freddie Ljungberg

Could never be accused of lack of effort but this was not his night as the supplementary striker to Thierry Henry. One shot at goal in the 90 minutes tells its own story. 6

Thierry Henry

Even the best need service. Doubtless it will again be levelled at him that he has not turned up on the big occasion. But give him the service and he will hurt the opposition. 6

SUBSTITUTES Mathieu Flamini: Replacement for Edu after 36 mins. Ran hard, worked hard, but little joy. 5 Robin van Persie: On after 75 minutes for Ljungberg. Nice touches but no killing passes. 5 Ashley Cole: Played for the last eight minutes to prove his readiness for tough examinations to come in the next fortnight. 5

MANAGER Arsene Wenger: Tactics were right but could do nothing once his players crossed the white line. His plans were undermined by Toure. 7
