Holloway sees path to the top

Ian Holloway is confident that Queens Park Rangers can come from behind to win the Second Division Championship.

Rangers trail leaders Plymouth by seven points but manager Holloway is pleased with their position with 14 games to go. QPR have won just one of their last five matches but can move to within two points of second-placed Bristol City by beating Port Vale at Loftus Road tonight.

Holloway said: "When the bell goes the person coming from behind often wins. Bristol and Plymouth are not far enough ahead for me to be worried about it. Many times it's a blessing in disguise to be behind and it's better to be a contender than a champion.

"We're in a good position to challenge for automatic promotion and the Championship but I'm not a mind reader. Bristol City won 11 games in a row and if we win our game in hand we'll be two points behind them. That's how far we've come."

Rangers have benefited from the postponement of Saturday's game at Tranmere, with Clarke Carlisle (right) and Matthew Rose fit enough to start after ankle injuries.

Holloway added: "There aren't many teams who are as close as we are as the season reaches its climax. The excitement is building and I can feel it. We've had horrendous injury problems but are getting over them and now my players are coming back I don't have any worries."
