Five of Hodgson's side were making their first start of the season, including Swiss keeper Pascal Zuberbuhler who impressed on his debut following his move from Neuchatel Xamax last month.
The manager added: "I thought we matched them in most areas of the field and overall I have to say I am pleased with the way my team performed on the night."
The Championship side's defences proved too strong for Andy Johnson who again failed to open his Fulham account on his third appearance for the club.
The striker is battling to return to full fitness, but his recovery would have been boosted had he made more of a first-half chance set up by Seol Ki-Hyeon only to scuff his shot straight at Burnley keeper Brian Jensen.
