Hoddle considering Reading

Glenn Hoddle was today thinking over an offer from Reading to become their new manager.

Hoddle was sacked just eight days ago by Tottenham but as Standard Sport revealed last week the Nationwide League club made almost immediate contact and asked him if he would be interested.

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams had been the strong favourite to replace Alan Pardew, who will becomeWest Ham manager next month.

Reading chairman John Madejski was impressed by Adams in a first interview and the former England star was invited back for a second meeting with the club's directors.

In the meantime, however, Hoddle had left Spurs and came into the frame late.

It is now understood that Hoddle has leapfrogged Adams to the top of the list and has only to give Reading the nod to be appointed.

It is possible, however, that the former Spurs midfielder may feel it would be better to keep his powder dry for a while yet, in the hope that he will be offered another manager's job in the Premiership.

Hoddle began his managerial career just down the M4 from Reading at Swindon but may not want to drop back down to the First Division.
