Highbury duo set to sign new deals

Arsenal are close to securing the long-term futures of Sol Campbell and Edu.

As expected, Dutch striker Dennis Bergkamp yesterday signed a new one-year contract that will mean he ends his career at Highbury next May.

Now Campbell and Edu are set to sign new deals in the next two weeks. Talks have gone smoothly and there are unlikely to be any last-minute hitches.

Arsene Wenger is keen to secure both players before many of the squad disperse for international duty in the next fortnight and it is thought they will sign three-year extensions to their current deals which have a year to run.

But the futures of three other players are less certain. Wenger has still to reach agreement with Sylvain Wiltord, who will be in the France squad for Euro 2004.

Wiltord is available on a free transfer this summer under the Bosman ruling and is wanted by new German champions Werder Bremen.

Nigerian striker Nwankwo Kanu is also out of contract as is veteran defender Martin Keown, who has attracted interest from Portsmouth and West Ham.

Bergkamp told arsenal.com: "I am so pleased that I will be at Arsenal for another year. Next season will be my tenth with the club, and that just shows what Arsenal means to me. We have a great squad and team spirit, which we have proved by winning the Premiership this year. I hope I will be part of another successful campaign for Arsenal next season."
