Henman has never beaten Sampras on grass and lost to the seven-times Wimbledon champion at the semi-final stage in 1998 and 1999. The No 6 seed has a much better record against Federer, however, having beaten him in their two previous meetings.
The most recent came in Vienna last year when Henman overcame the 19-year-old from Munchenstein in a hard fought three-set battle.
Federer hinted today that he would have preferred to play anyone but Henman in the last eight, which also featured unseeded Goran Ivanisevic against Marat Safin, Thomas Enqvist versus Pat Rafter and Nicolas Escude against Andre Agassi.
But Henman wasn't taking anything for granted. He said: "Federer is playing as well as anyone. I'm sure having the result that he's just had he's pretty confident with his game."
Although he had more treatment on his back immediately after completing a 6-7, 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Martin, Henman said he was confident the problems which had troubled him when the match was suspended on Monday evening had gone.
"It feels great," he said. "I think it was pretty evident that I was moving and serving okay yesterday. It's rare you go on court feeling 100 per cent with no niggles."
