Henman rolls over Swiss

Henman lost his opening set in his first-round victory over inexperienced Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo. He made another disappointing start when he dropped his serve in the opening game against the 28-year-old Heuberger.

The British No1 had three chances to break back in the fourth game.

But his Swiss opponent, who has never been past the first round on three previous appearances at the All England Club, showed composure and class to get out of trouble. Two games later Henman managed to break back to level at 3-3.

But the Briton was struggling to dominate the match. He dropped his serve again in the following game but broke back to level at 5-5 after Heuberger could only strike a poor volley into the net.

But the Briton was still looking far from confident. He had to save two break points against him in his next service game.

Henman then lifted his game when it mattered, setting up three set points in the next game at 0-40 and clinching the set 7-5 when a Heuberger forehand hit the net cord and bounced out of court. Afterwards Henman started to play with more confidence and made light work of the rest of the match. Heuberger put up some opposition in the third set but Henman finished off the match after two hours and six minutes.

British No3 Greg Rusedski exchanged heated words with umpire Wayne McKewen, but won the first set of his second-round match against Rainer Schuettler.

Rusedski was broken in his third service game after the umpire incorrectly called a Schuettler return in.

Rusedski looked furious, jesticulating to the umpire how far the ball had gone out, and at the next changeover asked him: "Will you watch that on television tonight to see the huge mistake you just made?"

Rusedski was fined £1500 at last year's tournament for a foul-mouth outburst on court.

He put the clash behind him to take the first set on a tie-break.

Meanwhile, Argentina's Guillermo Coria today became the highestranked casualty of the tournament so far when he was beaten by Germany's Florian Mayer.

The No3 seed was beaten 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. The world No66's reward is a third-round meeting with South African veteran Wayne Ferreira who overcame Karol Kucera 7-6, 6-3, 6-1. No2 seed Andy Roddick comfortably avoided a similar fate to Coria with a 6-3, 7-6, 6-4 victory over Austria's Alexander Peya.
