Healey recalled after Cohen pulls out

England reinstated Austin Healey yesterday in place of the grief-stricken Ben Cohen amid tragic circumstances which neither party would have wished.

The home team will wear black armbands against Australia at Twickenham on Saturday as a mark of respect for their absent wing, whose father Peter died on Tuesday, almost exactly one month after being attacked while trying to break up a brawl outside a Northampton nightclub.

Cohen's withdrawal from the match, by mutual agreement, followed a conversation between the player and Clive Woodward.

'It's desperately sad for Ben and our deepest sympathies are with him and his family at this difficult time,' said the England manager. 'It's best for him and we have agreed that he will rejoin the squad next week for our Test against Argentina.'

Healey, therefore, reclaims the place he had surprisingly lost to Cohen two days earlier. 'It was a massive call to put Ben in ahead of Austin but I was going to bring Austin on for at least 30 minutes.' said Woodward.

'He's been brilliant about it.You don't want to start on the bench even if the coach says he will bring you on at some stage.' Will Greenwood, who has not appeared in any of England's seven matches since their World Cup defeat by South Africa 13 months ago, fills the vacancy among the seven substitutes.
