Salem, whose professional record reads 23 wins and three defeats, comes to Scotland as a rank outsider.
But Calzaghe, unbeaten in 37 fights, is aware of the particular danger his 36-year-old opponent poses. The 31-year-old Welshman, who is targeting the light-heavyweight division and a fight against Jamaican IBF belt-holder Glen Johnson in the United States early next year, said: "Salem is big and strong and has never been stopped.
"Not only is he tough, he is also rough and comes in with his head low as an extra weapon. That is a concern. I'll have to step back, fight on the back foot and keep him at arm's length, so I can use my boxing skills to full effect."
