Head stays cautious over Goldikova finale

Wonder mare Goldikova will face her stiffest task yet as she attempts to win the Breeders' Cup Mile for a third time in Kentucky next month, according to her trainer.

Goldikova is evens with Sky Bet to win a record 12th Group/Grade One race, having captured the Prix de la Foret at Longchamp on Sunday.

Despite breaking the European record for top level wins with another fine victory, Freddie Head believes that the five-year-old will be no sure thing at Churchill Downs.

"A race like that is always difficult," he said. "You have to race against the best so it is not won already."

Head said she had taken her half-length victory over Paco Boy well and will have an easy time of it before her work intensifies in preparation for her swansong on 6 November.

"We are delighted with her. Now she will have a quiet time and at the end of the week we will start cantering," said Head. "It could be her last race. For the moment it is her last race. You never know, because the Wertheimers [owners] are very sporting people. They love to see her run."
