Saracens had harboured hopes of finishing fourth and clinching the last guaranteed home draw for the play-offs, but they have faltered and can only finish fifth. That would give Francois Pienaar's injury-hit squad an away trip to Northampton.
Kevin Sorrell is the latest in a long line of Saracens players in plaster this season - he has broken a hand - and misses the final home game with Newcastle on Sunday.
Newcastle will also be fighting hard for fifth place as the team that finish sixth will face a daunting trip to Bath.
Richard Hill, England's try-scoring hero against France, confirmed this is not the finish Saracens wanted.
He said: "I don't think anyone at Saracens is satisfied with fifth place. We were one of the favourites for the league, but the two Heineken Cup losses to Cardiff were the turning point and our form deteriorated a bit after that."
Springbok outside-half Jannie de Beer will make his debut for Saracens after coming through a midweek second-team match after 10 months out with a knee injury.
London Irish are home to Gloucester on Easter Monday and a big crowd will witness their attempt to grab back eighth spot from Sale.
At least the Irish will know what the task will be by then as Sale finish their league programme on Saturday.
Brendan Venter's Irish side were mauled at Sale, but are a different proposition at home while Gloucester may be distracted by their imminent Heineken Cup semi-final with Leicester on 21 April.
