Harbhajan has authorities in a spin

Harbhajan Singh, Surrey's new overseas recruit, is facing a charge of bowling with an illegal action.

The 24-year-old off-spinner helped India to beat Pakistan by 195 runs in the Second Test in Calcutta but was last night reported by all three umpires and match referee Chris Broad.

Their concerns related specifically to Harbhajan's delivery that spins away from a right-handed batsman, and surfaced only during Pakistan's second innings. Former England batsman Broad said: "It was noticeable to the umpires and me that there was a change in action when bowling this delivery between the first innings of the match, when no concerns were raised, and the second, which then prompted the report to be made."

Harbhajan, who took two wickets in each innings, faces being tested by one of the International Cricket Council's independent 'human movement specialists' and, if found guilty, could be suspended or banned from bowling his special delivery.
