Gunners wait on Cole fitness

Ashley Cole is fighting to be fit for Arsenal's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich tomorrow.

The England left-back, who missed the Premiership match against Crystal Palace and the FA Cup tie against Sheffield United because of flu, was able to train yesterday and again this morning but is still weak and faces a late fitness test.

Cole travelled with the squad that left Luton this afternoon for snow-bound Munich where the daytime temperatures have dipped to -4 degrees centrigrade.

Edu appears to have recovered from a hamstring problem and is set to partner Patrick Vieira in central midfield.

However, Arsenal are facing the threat of losing two key players for three matches following incidents in their Cup match against Sheffield United at Highbury.

Striker Dennis Bergkamp was shown a red card by referee Neale Barry after clashing with United defender Danny Cullip in the 35th minute of Saturday's 1-1 draw. Barry later said the Dutch striker had been dismissed for pushing Cullip in the chest. Arsenal, who were drawn away to Bolton in the quarter-finals should they beat United, have appealed.
