Grip: Sven told the truth

FA chairman Geoff Thompson is leading the probe into the embarrassing series of events which saw Soho Square officials first deny and then confirm Eriksson's liaison with Alam.

"In a dramatic development it emerged today that computerfiles have been seized from the FA's headquarters by officials working on the investigation. The FA wants to know how emails from Alam to friends, which appear to confirm her relationships with both Eriksson and chief executive Mark Palios, were leaked to the media.

The England coach could be forced out if he is found to have misled them over the relationship.

Palios, whose affair was also exposed, has already been cleared of any blame.

Eriksson believes he is in the clear as the FA failed to ask him directly whether he was romantically involved with Alam.

But even if Eriksson survives next week's meeting, his reputation will be so undermined that it will be difficult for him to continue in the position. The FA's director of football development, Trevor Brooking, is expected to step in if Eriksson goes.

For the time being Grip says Eriksson has no need to resign and the pair are still making plans for the friendly against Ukraine at Newcastle on 18 August.

Grip added: "I spoke to Sven on Monday and we talked about planning. We are preparing for the friendly against Ukraine and the World Cup qualifiers."
