Graeme Smith: Aussie win is our best

Captain Graeme Smith today hailed South Africa's series win in Australia as the greatest moment in his country's cricket history.

Smith's team can inflict a first-ever home whitewash on the Aussies if they follow up wins in Perth (by six wickets) and Melbourne (nine wickets) with victory in the Third Test in Sydney, which starts on 3 January.

Smith, whose 1,656 runs make him the highest scoring Test player of the year, said: "It's got to be our best moment. It's the most incredible season South Africa have ever had, particularly with the results that we've had (11 victories in 15 Tests). Credit to Australia, they've dominated world cricket for a decade but it's a real honour for us to know we are the first team in 16 years to come and be victorious on these shores."

Bangladesh fell 107 runs short of victory on the final day of the First Test with Sri Lanka in Mirpur today. Chasing 521, the hosts began the day needing another 267, but despite 101 from Mohammad Ashraful and Shakib Al Hasan's 96 they were all out for 413.

Rain washed out today's one-dayer between West Indies and New Zealand in Queenstown with the hosts on 129 for five after 35.4 overs.
