England hit an unbelievable 517-1 on the final day of the first Ashes Test before declaring. Alistair Cook made an incredible 235 not out, the sixth best Ashes score by an Englishman, and the 25-year-old's knock surpassed Sir Don Bradman for the highest Test score made at the Gabba. Cook and his partner, Jonathan Trott, put on 329, the ninth highest England stand in history. Australia were then put into bat and reached 107-1 before the match finished in a draw.
