The French striker only had seven goals to his name at Liverpool before their meeting with Arsenal, but perhaps Roy Hodgson's man management skills will have the same affect on Ngog as it had on Bobby Zamora at Fulham.

It may have been closer to Washington than Wimbledon, but the climate in which Murray beat Roger Federer at the weekend will have made Toronto feel like home. The Brit saw off several rain delays and then the Swiss maestro 7-5, 7-5 to retain the Rogers Cup title in Canada.

Steven Carr
With the ink barely dry on his new contract at Birmingham, the mad and bad memories of his display on Saturday will haunt him in his sleep.

During a tortuous 2-2 draw with Sunderland, Carr's tackle on Fraizer Campbell earned the Black Cats a penalty – and the referee's contentious decision to award the spot-kick, with the challenge occurring just outside the area, will have angered Carr further.

And his dismay grew when his 56th-minute header looped into his own net. Not the most auspicious starts to the season for Birmingham's captain.

Pepe Reina
The Spaniard's spill will have has sent a chill down the spine of Roy Hodgson.

Liverpool's goalkeeper unwittingly shovelled the ball into his own net to give Arsenal a precious point at Anfield on Saturday.

At least he still has the support of Steven Gerrard after his costly error.

"For me he is one of the best keepers in the world and he will certainly make up for that during the course of the season," said the midfielder.

Joe Cole
It was his first game for Liverpool in which he also picked up the first red card of his career. Cole's lunge on Laurent Koscielny that saw him sent off ruined his debut for the Anfield club. And the winger is set to see yet more red, as Liverpool face Manchester United next month.

The 24-year-old was more ice skater than a goalkeeper on Saturday, as he slipped all around his goalmouth when facing the Chelsea onslaught that pulverised his West Brom team 6-0.

Robert Green
During a terrible time for keepers, West Ham's man also made it into the weekend's family of fumblers. Green's poor punch from Ashley Young's cross eventually led to a tap-in from Stewart Downing. It was only one of three goals West Ham conceded, but Green's error remained in spectators' minds long after the final whistle.
