Tiger Woods will return to competitive golf this weekend for the first time since a serious car crash.

Woods suffered open fractures to his lower right leg as well as injuring his foot and ankle following the high-speed accident back in February after which he was told he was lucky to be alive.

After a lengthy programme of rehabilitation, Woods will return to action on Saturday for the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie.

The father and son were paired at the event a year ago and go out in the final pairing alongside Justin Thomas and his father Mike.

Speaking of Woods’ return, Thomas said: “My excitement level is high just for him being out there and being somewhere other than his house and getting to see a lot of familiar faces.

“I know that he somewhere deep down in there has this circled on the calendar of wanting to come back here.

“In terms of competing, I think his expectations are very low but, at the same time, he is who he is for a reason so I’m sure he’ll be p****d off if he doesn’t play well.”
