Goldikova is ‘better than ever’

Freddy Head is confident wonder mare Goldikova will land a record-breaking third Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill Downs, Kentucky, on Saturday.

The French trainer is unconcerned that the five-year-old, who has 11 Group One victories to her name, has been drawn in stall 10 in the 11-runner field on a turf track that will be unseasonably fast.

Head said: "We've had a very good year and I'm very happy. It's the best year so far.

"Last year, I wasn't so confident about our chances because she had been beaten in her prep race [the Prix de la Foret].

"But this year it's smooth all the time, so that's why I'm very confident about the race. There's nothing against her, really.

"Goldikova has travelled really well and she's in better form than she has ever been."

He added: "Maybe we would have liked it [the draw] on the inside a bit more but she'll manage.
"She won last year from that same sort of draw and there won't be any problem. She loves fast ground and I'll be happy if it stays like that. It's going to be perfect."

Brian Meehan says Theyskens' Theory will handle the dirt track when she lines up in tomorrow's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
