John Gosden has not won the John Smith's Northumberland Plate in nearly 20 years but he looks to have an excellent chance of ending that barren spell with Investissement.

Admittedly, tomorrow's two-mile Newcastle handicap was not one of the trainer's key targets at the start of the season but it is still something of a surprise that he has not tasted glory in the race since Witness Box in 1992.

New recruit Investissement looks to be a live contender this time, however, after scoring at the first time of asking for Gosden. Previously trained in France by Andre Fabre, the five-year-old won one of seven starts before being bought as a jumping prospect.

But hurdling was not to the gelding's liking and he failed to shine in two starts in that discipline. However, he bounced back to form on his debut for Gosden on the Flat with a half-length verdict over Moyenne Corniche in a Goodwood handicap in April.

Investissement has been given plenty of time to get over those exertions so hopefully he can make a successful step up to two miles, especially with his good draw in stall three.
