Gloucester reunion is on hold for Phil again

A toe injury means one of England's forgotten men - London Wasps hooker Phil Greening - will miss an emotional appearance against his former club Gloucester at Wycombe tonight.

Greening was on the verge of rejoining his hometown club during the summer before deciding that the contentment he has found at Wasps meant too much to him.

England's first-choice hooker at the 1999 World Cup but dropped in 2001, Greening has since turned his international frustrations into loyalty to the Wasps cause.

"I was leaving Wasps in the summer," said the 28-year old. "I had bought a house in Gloucester and I was all but gone.

"But at the last minute I changed my mind. After thinking about things I realised I couldn't see myself being as happy as I have been here at Wasps.

"The lure of Gloucester was strong, because it is my hometown club and because I still have so many friends there, but I feel like I can't ever leave this place."
