"When you go over there, for two or three days you are dead. You just cannot be 100 per cent. If it is administrative work you are doing it is not so bad but when you need to be at 100 per cent of your physical potential, it is impossible.
"A solution has to be found for the problem. I will fight to get the international campaign outside the championships."
For Wenger, the optimum solution is a two-month break around autumn time, when all international fixtures can be accommodated.
He added: "It is so difficult for the players. They are under a lot of pressure when they go away with their national teams. They need a breather when they come back. All they do is play games."
