Giggs says Ferguson will stay until 2008

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson intends to lead the club for at least another three years.

Ferguson has told his players he wants to get United back on top of his rivals and land more trophies so that he can go out on a high.

Winger Ryan Giggs recently signed a two-year extension to his contract, which will keep him at Old Trafford until June 2008.

And he said: "The boss encouraged me to sign and indicated he would be here for at least that length of time.

"He said he wants to stay for a number of reasons. He wants to get United back to the top of the Premiership and to see the likes of Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Darren Fletcher become worldclass players.

"The manager also wants to win more trophies and make sure that when he does eventually go, he finishes on a high.

"There is no question we are building another team to win the title. Defensively the ages of the players are young. Look at the ages of the teams that win the European Cup and the average is normally around 29. Our young foundation will learn.

"The players aren't looking at this as being the end of an era. It is the inconsistency that we need to address. We have promising players who can only get better."
