Gatland bullish about European chances

London Wasps coach Warren Gatland today pledged to turn around his side's disappointing Heineken Cup campaign as the competition enters a decisive fortnight.

After losing their last two European games to Leicester, Wasps are down to third in Pool One and have a major task on their hands to reach the quarter-finals.

But, boosted by a convincing 27-15 defeat of Harlequins in the Premiership over New Year, Gatland is confident his team can pick up maximum points against struggling Italian side Calvisano at the Causeway on Sunday.

Wasps would then face a showdown in France against Biarritz the following weekend when Gatland believes both teams will be desperate for points. He said: "We have got a chance. We haven't given up on the Heineken Cup yet. If in two weeks we are not qualified, then our whole effort will be on the Premiership and defending our title."

Wasps never looked in danger of losing at Quins from the moment scrum-half Matt Dawson threw a clever dummy in the fourth minute and raced under the posts.

Dawson's solid performance was the highlight of a game that kept the London side in second place in the Premiership table.
