Future looks bright for Taameer

It is a little premature to compare Taameer with Nayef or Nashwan, but a win in the Deloitte Autumn Stakes at Ascot (3.30) tomorrow would see comparisons being made.

Marcus Tregoning was assistant to Dick Hern when subsequent Derby hero Nashwan landed this race in 1988 and was training in his own right when saddling multiple Group 1 winner Nayef to take the 2000 renewal.

Interestingly, both Nashwan and Nayef went into this contest with one run under their belts, and both of them were Newbury wins.

Taameer won in eye-catching style on his only appearance in the same Newbury contest Nayef won eight years before and, like the two aforementioned superstars, Taameer runs in the famous blue and white silks of Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.

But coincidences don't win races, horses do and the manner of this colt's victory last month marked him down as a serious player.

Sent off at 20-1, Tregoning admitted that Taameer was very backward beforehand and that he has improved considerably for the experience. The form of that win was also franked yesterday when the third, Palavicini won at Newbury. Tregoning said: "He is a horse I like a lot. He is in great order and being a late maturing type this was the obvious target for him.
